Victor Osimhen and Napoli’s title charge
European matches are peak moments in a players career. It is a moment to either show and announce yourself to the world or show that your domestic hype is probably not worth much noise. For Victor Osimhen though, it was the former as the Nigerian announced himself for Napoli last Thursday.
With the Partenopei losing 2-0 to Leicester City and
looking down and out, the Nigerian produced two moments of magic to secure a
point, opening his account for the season in the process.
Osimhen would be hoping for a better season overall
compared to last season which was plagued with a lot of inconsistencies.
Victor Osimhen, who moved from Lille for a club
record £70m, had a shoulder injury that kept him out for weeks. In December he
was photographed at a party without a mask after which he tested positive for
COVID, an event that brought up doubts regarding his behaviour.
He ended the season with 10 goals, however, a good
end to a tough season.
Ability wise, Osimhen is something else. Strength,
pace, good hold up play, good link-up play, brilliant at running behind, very
good awareness, a poachers instinct and good finishing. He is the real deal. Of
all of this though, one of his most impressive abilities is his pressing. He is
elite at it.
On eye test, he presses like a monster. checking
that stat proves it however as he hits 17.87 pressures per game which is ahead
of Lautaro Martinez (16.95) and only behind Roberto Firmino (18.85) who are two
of the top pressing 9’s in the world.
These abilities make him one of the best forwards in
the world. Still just 22, he’s not the finished article yet as there’s still a
lot to improve on. He is still rash sometimes, always in a hurry to make things
happen and his ability in tight spaces is still an issue. But as I mentioned,
he’s still young and there is room for improvement.
After opening his league account for Napoli on
Monday, he would be looking to fire the Partenopei to a league title, their
first since 1989/1990.
With 4 wins from 4, their best start to the season
ever, Napoli are definitely on the right path to a title success,. Before the
season started, I tipped them as favourites and so far they have delivered
scoring 10 goals and conceding just 2 goals. With their other rivals in some
disarray; Juventus struggling without Ronaldo, Inter Milan with financial
issues, AC Milan not fully settled yet, this could be that year for Luciano
Spalletti’s men.
Luciano Spalletti however, has moved very early to
play down his side’s title chances tipping Milan and Inter ahead of his team,
"The season is still long, but the team is quality," Spalletti said
"Perhaps, we lack those players who can allow us to make substitutions, keeping the team's level high. And we need to be lasting, how many games can we play at this level? This will make the difference.
Milan are very strong, Inter have worked well despite a couple of big sales. They brought important players in and they have a strong midfield.
Our strength is our environment. We are overwhelmed with love that can come fuel for players."
He thinks he's sleek. With players like Ospina, Koulibaly, Mario Rui, Insigne, Politano, Zielinski, Anguissa, Lozano and Osimhen, he has no excuse not to challenge for the title. Fair enough to him for playing safe though. Idea.
The title cannot be won after 4 gameweeks but it can be lost after 4 gameweeks and Napoli are on the right path to winning. Invest in Osimhen (very important) and Napoli stocks now and thank me later.
The boy is good! Hopefully he has a good run this season and carries the team to a title.
ReplyDeleteYeah hopefully. We need to feast.
